THE ASK: Create a monthly newsletter and template that can be interchanged every month.

THE PROCESS: To begin this project, I needed to start with the title and logo for the newsletter. The parent company for Innovative Advertising is called “People Who Think",” so I brainstormed different title ideas that followed the theme of innovation and thought.

To the left are some of the title ideas that I created along with logo designs. I loved the look of the white and gold contrasted with a dark navy background. For the final design, featured at the top of the newsletter, I ended up combining the idea of a thought bubble design with the double-banner look.

The texture of the background is actually an image of the flooring in the office that I found in their archive. I made the image greyscale and overlayed it with the company’s navy color. I thought that using this asset from the actual office was a fun easter egg and also gave the header more visual interest.

After deciding on a name and logo, I created the individual sections for the newsletter. Since this newsletter was going to be used after my internship ended, I created an interchangeable template through MailChimp where sections could be added, deleted, and edited depending on the month. I ensured ease-of-use so that any employee could edit the template to produce their desired result long after I completed my internship.

The sections include:

• Recent Blog Post: A featured image of the blog’s recent post with a link and synopsis of the article is highlighted at the beginning

• Award-Winning Project: A bragging section to bring attention to a recent project that received an award

• Taking on Trends: Thought leadership section

• Client Spotlight: Showcases client work and promotes their brand

• What We’ve Been Up To: Gives readers a chance to observe the great work environment behind this company
